To get to this
destination, head east
on Montauk Highway, pass
the parking area for
Georgica Pond in
Wainscott; follow the
signs for the airport
and head north on
Daniel’s Hole Road.
Follow Daniel’s Hole
Road 1.8 miles, past the
airport. Park on the
road shoulder near where
the power lines cross
the road. Enter a
driveway on the west
side of the road, just
south of the power line
right-of-way (ROW).
This gravel road leads
to a communications
tower. If you walk this
driveway a short
distance you will find
an unmarked trail that
enters the woods up an
embankment by the right
side of the tower.
There is a short segment
of trail that runs along
the driveway. It
visits the vernal
wetland off to the left
called Daniel’s Hole.
This loop trail is 2.5
miles long, running
first west for about a
mile parallel to the
south side of the ROW;
after crossing over the
ROW it runs back east
along its north side.
When the trail meets up
with the PP follow the
white blazes across the
ROW. Almost immediately
after crossing the power
lines take a right turn
off of the PP and head
back east along the
“Switchback Trail.”
Faded white dots mark
some of the trees along
this trail. Pass a
large glacial erratic
and continue along some
looping turns up to
higher elevations. The
trail reaches the road a
short distance north of
where you began the
hike.
